Homeschooling, Unschooling, & Free / Democratic / Non-traditional Learning
Hi Friends,
I'm interested in having a conversation with those interested in solving wickedly complex problems in the real world.
I see these problems as presenting authentic learning opportunities.
Of course, working on these problems involves thinking outside the box of traditional education and fostering learning environments that allow students to think about whole systems rather than in academic silos.
My first course along these lines is called Authentic Science Research for Sustainability and Entrepreneurship.
The bigger vision is a world without hunger. Stated another way: The end goal is teaching others the principles of science, engineering, ecology and entrepreneurship that allow others to optimize food production systems. I'd like to see others growing healthy, pesticide-free sustainable food for themselves and for their local communities.
If done well, people around the world would solve their own problems of hunger locally by developing their own technology appropriate for local conditions.
Our role will be to provide them with scientific and engineering challenges that train their minds to think outside traditional ways of doing and thinking in order to create given the constraints of their own environments.
Would you like to join me in this endeavor?
